Worship, not Work

A group of us from St Matthew’s had a fantastic evening at The Globe on Wednesday night at the Ed Silvoso evening. We heard many encouraging stories of how God’s people in Reading are impacting the town, and how whole communities around the world are being transformed by Christians who have caught the vision that all of us are ministers of the gospel in our own spheres of influence.

Ed encouraged us with the thought that, whether we are in business, in caring professions, or stay-at-home mums; whether we are shop-keepers, taxi-drivers or ice-cream sellers, we don’t go to work, we go to worship. And he finished the evening by praying for an anointing on the whole church in Reading to aim for nothing less than a town transformed by the love of Jesus. It was exciting stuff and I certainly felt a powerful presence of the Holy Spirit as hundreds of people linked hands to receive the anointing and determined to live out God’s call on their lives.

I will be praying that the Holy Spirit’s anointing will fall on everyone at St Matthew’s to equip us all to be the people that God is calling us to be so that each of us become change agents in the places where we live and work.

With love in Christ,
Pads

Church Family Sunday & BBQ

After the morning service!
Put the date in your diary, and let us know if you can make a salad or pudding for the occasion. Meat will be provided.

The evening before the BBQ we will put up the gazebo. It's a large, heavy thing and we could do with 3/4 people to help Pads. It shouldn't take more than an hour and we'd be extremely grateful for such help. It's also a great way to serve the church family, your family!

And tomorrow - don't forget... !

This event is free of charge (donations welcome to cover the cost of the breakfast) so feel free to invite your friends for a 'morning out'. There's no need to book and there's always plenty of food to go around. We really look forward to hearing Jo's inspiring and uplifting message.

The wonderful team that sets up the church, cooks breakfast, serves it to all those who come, is not very large.

If you have enjoyed the morning, the lovely food, the worship, the prayers... please see if you could lend a small hand at the end, just to help clear everything up more quickly. It would be hugely appreciated!

Also coming up

Saturday 7 July, 9am: Come and help us clear the church grounds

Please come and join us as we chop, trim and tidy up the grounds around our lovely church. Coffee and Donuts will be provided. The more we are, the quicker we'll get the job done - it's also more fun!
Sunday 8 July, 6pm: Who are we listening to?
Following on from last year's Listening to God course. Join us as we explore with Kirstie some of the reasons why we may be struggling to hear from God.
No need to have done the previous course - All welcome.

Other bits and bobs

Do you have a bit of spare time? Some tools at home?

Occasionally small things around church need fixing. If you are handy, fancy doing something other than watch TV (or you're not bothered about football...)  and get a sense of accomplishment by ticking down a list of jobs, here are a few small jobs that need doing in the premises:
  • Hall: fix the cords in a couple of roller blinds (we have the cords and ladder)
  • Toilets: fix the handle in the disabled toilet
  • Outside: put up a new noticeboard against the church wall (by the disabled parking)
